Education & Training Opportunities
Angelina College, a two-year institution founded in 1966, has upgraded its educational facilities and is highly regarded for its health care, technical and industrial training programs. Many of the college’s students complete their education at Stephen F. Austin State University, only 20 miles away in neighboring Nacogdoches.
One of the fastest growing community colleges in the state, Angelina College continues to expand through new construction and new programs.
Two of the buildings funded through a $10.5 million bond election, the Workforce Development Center and the Community Services building, have been open for over for two years. A new Activity Center nears completion, and work has been completed on a Performing Arts Center in partnership with the Angelina County Arts Alliance.
“During its 31-year history, Angelina College has served the higher education needs of our area,” said Dr. Larry Phillips, president of the college. “We are happy to continue to be a part of the progress of deep East Texas.”
Angelina College’s credit enrollment is now over the 4,000 mark. The college offers transfer and vocational classes and affordable cost. Community Services short courses are available for continuing education, providing job skills, and for recreation.
Several new programs have been introduced on campus. A Work Keys program was initiated in the Workforce Development Center. The program is a national system for assessing and teaching workplace skills.
The college opened a vocational nursing program at the Jasper Teaching Center. Distance learning is provided at seven off-campus teaching centers. A para-legal program is being developed by the Criminal Justice Department, and a legal secretary program is being spun-off in the Business Division.
Located on 140-wooded acres on Highway 59 South in Lufkin, the college offers 2-year Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees, and certificates of completion.
